Coca-Cola and Nestle have made claims that their new drink “Enviga” burns calories, hence promoting weight loss.
The study itself, which was conducted by a Switzerland research company has come under scrutiny of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and the assumptions that Nestle and Coca-Cola have made based on the results. The study was conducted on just 31 subjects, all who are young and lean. Additionally, the duration of the test lasted only 72 hours and the funding came from Nestle themselves.
What Coca-Cola and Nestle did not disclose in their reports is that the drink had the opposite effect on some of the participants. Although all subjects did burn calories during the study, six out of the 31 participants actually burned 10 percent fewer calories following the study then before, meaning 1 in 5 people who choose to drink Enviga daily would actually gain weight over time.
All-in-all it is a great example that you can’t always believe everything you hear, and for that matter, what you read. Even published reports of benefits of any product need to be weighed carefully against the negative aspects. Luckily, with the Internet, consumers now have a great resource in order to find all the information to make an informed decision, as long as we use it, of course.
The holidays are always a time of social and family gatherings which means lots and LOTS of food. It’s no wonder that the average person tends to put on weight over the holiday season. So how can you avoid being the “average” person? There is a plan of attack for those who want to rise above and keep those holiday pounds off their waist line.
First, when you DO have control of what you are eating, for instance at breakfast time, make sure it is high in protein and low in fat. Fish is a great choice for lunches, or an egg white omelet at breakfast.
Eating a healthy breakfast or lunch before you go out will certainly contribute to your success but, ultimately, it will be what you eat at these holiday parties that will determine your success at keep your weight under control over the holidays. Munchies are very easy to get carried away with and there is always a seemingly unlimited supply, so make sure that you opt for healthier alternatives, such as fresh fruits or vegetables (avoid the dip!). These options will be sure to satisfy the urge to eat just as well as some of the less healthy alternatives.
Finally, and most importantly, don’t give your body a break over the holidays. Keep up with your regular workout routine or, if you are unable to due to scheduling issues, make time for a long run or walk in the morning. Getting up an hour earlier to fit this into your schedule will ensure that your body is still working over the holidays to help burn that excess fat.
Have a safe, happy and healthy holiday!
The true secret to weight loss in the past, until now, has been a great deal of hard work and will power, maybe with the occassional thermogenic or other weight-loss supplement. Wouldn’t it be nice to get that help from a simple cup of coffee?
CoffeeSLENDER may provide that solution. Developed by a company based in Norway, CoffeeSLENDER has been on sale via the Internet to the UK for the past year and will be bringing its product to the US starting in January of 2007.
CoffeeSLENDER’s weight loss edge is the active ingredient, svetol, which recently won an award at the 2006 Health Ingredients show. In a weight loss study where CoffeeSLENDER was taken after every meal, the results were astounding. On average those taking the CoffeeSLENDER witnessed a weight loss 50 percent greater than those not taking the CoffeeSLENDER, but on the same diet and workout routine, over a 60-day period. That worked out to approximately 11 pounds.
What does this mean for the future? Could this instant coffee drink actually help you lose weight? Only time will tell. Check out their website at http://www.coffeeslender.co.uk in the coming year as it makes a mark on the United States.
