New Roots Herbal Recall of Vitamin C8 in Canada
New Roots Herbal in Canada has issued a recall of Vitamin C8 after the company detected and confirmed an error in an internal post-production audit of the product. The company has informed Health Canada and has started the recall.
The company is recalling LOT 2689 (exp. 08/20/12) and LOT 9719 (exp. 01/2012) of Vitamin C8. The affected lots are sold in 90 and 180 capsule containers.
No other New Roots Herbal products are affected by the recall.
The error involves the ingredients where Retinol Palmitate (a form of Vitamin A) was incorrectly substituted for Ascorbyl Palmitate (a form of Vitamin C). The ingredients show 3,400 International Units (IU) of Vitamin A in each capsule. The maximum recommended daily dose of non-prescription Vitamin A for adults is 10,000 IU.
The company warns that pregnant women should avoid taking this product.
Symptoms of vitamin A overdose include headaches, fatigue, appetite loss, nausea, and diarrhea. There have been no reports of adverse reactions related to the product.
