Catnip

Catnip, a perennial herb of the mint family that is native to Europe and imported to the United States and other countries, is now a widespread weed in North America. Herbalists use the flowers and leaves of catnip to ease indigestion, calm nerves, ease stomach and intestinal cramps in children and adults and stimulate sweating in colds and flu. Used externally, catnip can be helpful in treating cuts and scrapes. Catnip is available in dried bulk flowers and leaves, tincture and tea bags. Precautions: There are no serious side effects of catnip, although, it can produce an upset stomach. Catnip should not be taken during pregnancy.
